On behalf of the National Land Rights Forum, Nepal, Chairperson Lyam Bahadur Darji has submitted an 11-point demand letter to Anil Kumar Sinha, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation of the interim government.
A discussion was also held at the Ministry between the team of the Land Rights Forum and the Minister regarding the demands raised by the Forum. After the interim government formed following the Jenji Movement dissolved the Land Problem Resolution Commission, the nationwide campaign for land management for landless Dalit and landless squatter families, as well as the land registration campaign for unplanned settler families, has come to a halt.
While receiving the demand letter from the Land Rights Forum, Minister Sinha stated that although the structure of the Commission has been removed, the Ministry will remain continuously active in resolving the problems of landless Dalits, landless squatters, and unplanned settlers. Minister Sinha said, “We will take initiatives to ensure that the work and processes of the current Commission do not fall into a vacuum.”
He further stated that, through the regular offices under the Ministry, the tasks of distributing preliminary land documents, entering the collected data into the system, and storing it safely will be completed within the timeframe set by the Ministry. The remaining work in the process will be taken forward by the new government elected by the citizens through voting.
